Our support work

We offer foster carers professional support tailored to their needs and to the needs of the children placed with them, from the beginning of the placement to the end, so that foster carers are not left alone in their work. In practice this means personal contact, a named worker, and a low threshold for getting in touch even when the matter is not a major one but is worth reflecting on together. Sometimes even a short conversation can help move things forward, and alongside challenging matters it is important to be able to share an everyday life that is going well. Where needed, we also work closely in support of the foster carer with the network of authorities, the various actors and the people close to the child.

In a changing society, and with the changes in legislation that guide the work of foster carers, it is important that foster carers have up-to-date information and strong support in their work. Our support work is based on solid practical experience of child welfare social work and of the work done in substitute care, which is why we are able to offer foster carers wide-ranging support.

Our family care support services include

Professional support tailored to each child for the duration of the placement
Availability and reachability
Support work with the family's biological children, including through experiential expertise
Peer support and a sense of community; the opportunity to take part in the work community's shared training and wellbeing days, as well as in peer activities for foster carers
Where needed, consultation and meetings with our specialist worker (psychologist)
Supervision by an external supervisor familiar with family care
Regular leave and assistance in arranging respite care
Care fee and expense allowance, as well as a start-up allowance
Support work and preparatory training can also be carried out in English where needed
